Securely fixing your polytunnel hoops to your foundations prevents the unlikely circumstance of a hoop lifting in heavy winds. This task should be completed once the process of tensioning the polytunnel cover has been completed. For the foundation tubes, drill a self tapping screw (SDS55) through the tubes where the hoop overlaps the foundation tubes (fig 26a).

NOTE: Due to the length of the swage, ensure the position of the screw is no higher than 4cm above the joint.

For hoops fitted to base plates, position the screw no more than 10cm from the bottom of the hoop. Take extra care as to not slip and damage the polytunnel cover. The screw is designed to drill its own hole. Start the drill slowly providing full power to the drill as the hole is generated, be careful not to over tighten. Creating an indentation with a hole punch will stop the screw from slipping.

Repeat this process on all foundations.
